SEDD, DSCD strengthen Strategic Partnership in Data and Statistics

Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” received a delegation from the Department of Statistics and Community Development “DSCD” in order to establish a technical partnership and enhance cooperation between the two parties in defining and classifying economic data and statistics and improving the level of data and information that enables the emirate to conduct accurate economic surveys and inquiries of various companies and institutions to work on achieving sustainable economic development.

Commenting on that, HE Fahad Ahmed Al Khamiri, SEDD Director, stated that the cooperation with the relevant entities in the emirate and coordination with them, especially with the Department of Statistics and Community Development, which contributes to raising the relative weight of the locomotive sectors in the emirate. In addition, HE stressed on the fact that SEDD will always work with the concerned entities in Sharjah such as DSCD in order to improve the collection of data on the business sector and economic and commercial establishments operating in the emirate, and in a way that contributes to improving the accuracy of economic data and its advanced analysis. Likely, it will contribute to assembling economic decisions and providing periodic data on the production and outputs of companies, as well as the needs of investors and improving customer experience. Such things are the priorities that the esteemed Executive Council focuses on under the guidance and continuous support of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council.

Furthermore, HE SEDD Director expected that the results of this cooperation would soon begin to appear through reports and data between the two entities that would contribute to improving the efficiency of markets and directing investments towards the most feasible sectors, which would increase the gross domestic product and enhance the emirate’s economic position.

Moreover, HE SEDD Director added that the Department is currently working on classifying economic data, conducting a periodic evaluation and review of the economic data map, and monitoring the life cycle of companies and economic establishments and linking them to the Department’s data. All of this is done in order to extract accurate, realistic data and indicators that would contribute to enhancing the investment climate and increasing the efficiency of calculating companies’ production in the emirate, which will positively reflect on the gross domestic product.

On the other hand, Abdullah Al Kadid Al Mahrazi, Director of the Statistics Department at the Department of Statistics and Community Development “DSCD”, said that it is important to attain statistical maturity in data, explaining that this is a major basis for making the most of the data available in government records as primary sources of information. Also, He pointed out the need to unify statistical methodologies and evidence, in addition to the importance of unified economic classifications to achieve integration between the various concerned parties and maximize the emirate’s benefit from this data.

Likewise, Al Mahrazi illustrated that it is crucial to adhere to economic classification of economic activities in order to know the actual size of the economy according to the various economic sectors, which directly contributes to preparing accurate economic indicators.

In this context, the concerned parties agreed to improve all human, logistical and technical capabilities necessary to facilitate the annual economic survey and statistical studies and prepare indicators that reflect the economic reality. It should be noted that SEDD renewed its full commitment to maintaining the privacy of data related to economic establishments, in accordance with the provisions of the law regulating its objectives and authorities.

By the end of the meeting, Al Mahrazi appreciated SEDD’s significant role in facilitating business in the emirate, and its effective role in enhancing the business environment and providing continuous support to the private sector, which contributes to driving the economic growth process in the emirate.
